The route

Airport to Ramboda: what to expect

Ramboda Falls drops in two main stages through a wooded gorge right beside the main road up to Nuwara Eliya, which makes it one of the few large waterfalls in Sri Lanka you can reach without walking. Around 109 metres in total, and genuinely impressive after rain.

Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple sits on the hillside above, built by the Chinmaya Mission and part of Sri Lanka's Ramayana trail — by tradition this valley is where Hanuman searched for Sita. There is a large seated Hanuman statue and a view down the valley that is worth the detour on its own. A tea factory on the same stretch of road makes the three fit neatly into an hour.

Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall with a name board, helps with luggage and SIM cards, and the price agreed on WhatsApp is final — fuel, tolls and parking are all inside it. Pay the driver on arrival in LKR, USD, EUR or GBP.

Colombo Airport to Ramboda — FAQ

How high is Ramboda Falls?

About 109 metres in total, falling in two main stages. It is right beside the Kandy to Nuwara Eliya road, so no walking is needed to see it.

When is Ramboda Falls at its best?

After rain. The north-east monsoon between October and January gives the strongest flow. In dry months it thins considerably, though the setting stays attractive.

What else is there at Ramboda?

The Hanuman temple above the falls, part of the Ramayana trail, and the Labookellie tea estate a little further up the road. Together they make an easy hour on the drive to Nuwara Eliya.
