The beach here is long and pale with shallow water, and it is where Jaffna goes at weekends. Nearby are Keerimalai, a freshwater spring pool beside the sea traditionally used for bathing, and the Naguleswaram temple, one of the ancient Shiva sites of the island.

Much of this area was a high-security zone for decades and has only reopened in recent years, which is why it feels newer than its history.
