The place

What these two spots actually are

Whiskey Point and Peanut Farm are the usual alternatives when Main Point is crowded or too much. Both are right-hand point breaks that you reach by tuk-tuk. Whiskey Point lies north of town and Peanut Farm south, each roughly 15 to 25 minutes away depending on which guide you believe and how bad the road is.

Whiskey Point breaks over a small rock patch and has an open shoulder with room for turns. One surf guide calls it “a tailor-made intermediate wave”, and it is usually quieter than the central spots although it fills up in the morning. Peanut Farm is a right off a lump of rock. It is friendly on small days and a surf-school hub from May to August, but at 5 feet or more it suits stronger surfers, and the outside section hits rocks.

They are gentler than Main Point on small days, not beginner spots in general, and both have wildlife as well as rocks to think about.

What to look for

Worth your attention

Whiskey Point’s shoulder

An open wave with room to turn, breaking over a small rock patch that collects sand. It tends to be better for intermediates than beginners.

Peanut Farm’s inside section

Best waves are caught after they wrap into the inside of the boulder, not on the steep outside section. The surf-school crowd gathers there May to August.

Whiskey Point sunset

A guide describes it as known for sunset views, though arrive early because it is no longer a secret.

The surrounding scrub

Crocodiles are reported in the water at Peanut Farm and wild elephants roam the coast, so look before you wander.
