Two and a half hours from the terminal. Midigama is a small village between Ahangama and Weligama with an unusual concentration of surf: Lazy Left, Ram's Right, Rockies and Plantations all break within a short walk of one another.
These are reef breaks, not the forgiving sand-bottomed rollers of Weligama ten minutes east. Midigama draws surfers who can already handle themselves, and the village has grown around that — board repair, cheap guesthouses, early nights. It is not a general beach destination and does not pretend to be.

No. These are reef breaks over shallow coral and rock, and they punish mistakes. Beginners should learn at Weligama, ten minutes east, where the bottom is sand and the waves are slow. Midigama suits intermediate surfers and up.
What are the surf breaks at Midigama?
Lazy Left, Ram's Right, Rockies and Plantations, all within about a kilometre. Lazy Left is the most forgiving; Rockies and Plantations are the heavier ones. The season runs roughly November to April.
Is there anything to do besides surf?
Not really, and that is the honest answer. Midigama is a surf village. Weligama, Mirissa and Ahangama are all within fifteen minutes if you want restaurants, whale watching or a beach that is not a break.
