Colombo Airport to Dickwella Taxi
Blowholes, a coconut-fringed bay and the quiet end of the south coast, three hours from the terminal.
Airport to Dickwella: what to expect
Expressway most of the way to Matara, then half an hour east on the coast road. Three hours door to door, and the final stretch is the part of the south coast where the development thins out and the beaches start to feel empty again.
Dickwella sits between Matara and Tangalle with a broad sheltered bay, a reef that keeps the swimming calm, and Hummanaya blowhole a few kilometres east — the second largest in the world, which fires a plume of seawater through a rock fissure when the swell is right. Hiriketiya, the horseshoe surf bay that has drawn most of the recent attention, is five minutes away.
Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall with a name board, helps with luggage and SIM cards, and the price agreed on WhatsApp is final — fuel, tolls and parking are all inside it. Pay the driver on arrival in LKR, USD, EUR or GBP.

Colombo Airport to Dickwella — FAQ
Is Dickwella or Hiriketiya better?
They are five minutes apart and increasingly one destination. Hiriketiya is the horseshoe bay with the surf scene and the busier cafes; Dickwella has the longer beach, calmer swimming and more space. Many people stay in Dickwella and walk over.
Is the sea safe for swimming at Dickwella?
The main bay is reef-sheltered and among the calmer swims on the south coast, which is why families choose it. Conditions still change with the season — May to September brings the south-west monsoon and rougher water.
Can the driver stop for food on the way?
Of course, and we would encourage it. Our drivers know which roadside places are worth stopping at on this route — short-eats, rice and curry, king coconut — and it is entirely your call how often we pull over.
