Is Wadduwa a good beach?
It is wide, long and backed by coconut palms rather than a main road, which makes it noticeably more pleasant than the beaches immediately north. Swimming is generally fine from November to April; the south-west monsoon brings rough water from May to September.
How long is the drive from the airport to Wadduwa?
Around 60 km and an hour and a quarter, almost all of it on the expressway around Colombo. It is the quickest route from the terminal to a genuinely swimmable beach.
Is Wadduwa or Bentota better?
Bentota has more hotels, water sports and the Madu River nearby. Wadduwa is quieter, cheaper and half an hour closer to the airport. For a single beach night at the start or end of a trip, Wadduwa usually wins on convenience.
